Standings Shuffled at NJMP

Dillon Machavern had a good race going in the No. 24 Heritage Motorsports Mustang, UniFirst, PPG, Traqgear Racing Innovations Mustang turning the fastest lap of the TA-2 race in The Trans Am Series - Round 5 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Machavern qualified in the top-5 of the 22-car field. At the drop of the green flag, Machavern advanced to second where he settled into a rhythm until the brake pedal went to the floor on lap-17 sending him for a short off course excursion. Making a quick recovery, he methodically worked back through the field to third place. Pacing and positioned to challenge at the end of the race, a late full course caution bunched up the field. On the lap-38 restart, the No.24 was hit and spun when a car charging from mid-pack made contact with multiple cars in Turn 1 – some retired, Machavern continued. With determination, he charged to the finish working his way back to an 8th place finish when the checker flew on lap-45.
“Disappointing result given we had the car for a podium finish. The crew did an awesome job on the set-up. The incident on the restart was unfortunate but I was able to continue and collect points in the standings. There are plenty of opportunities to stay in contention and that is the plan.”
Machavern is currently tied for third in the TA-2 points standings. Next up for The Trans-Am Series is Round 6 from Brainerd International Speedway, a new track for Machavern, over July 4th weekend. The race will be televised on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, July 25th at noon.
