Machavern Finishes on Podium at Road Atlanta
Under the hot Georgia sunshine, Dillon Machavern locked in a “Fast Five” qualifying position and finished on the podium in the Heritage Motorsports No.24 Ford Mustang at Road Atlanta, the historic track famous for its challenging turns with multiple elevation changes. The race made Trans-Am history with a record 38-car field taking the green flag in the Foametix Muscle Car Challenge standalone TA-2 100-mile race on May 7 – 9.
Machavern started on the inside of row 2 behind Adam Andretti, reigning TA-2 champion Cameron Lawrence and Tony Buffamonte. Throughout the race, Machavern moved aggressively yet showed patience as he charged to the lead. Machavern took the lead on lap 23 and continued to lead the field past the white flag for the final lap of the race. However, to the benefit of Lawrence and misfortune of Machavern a mechanical issue surfaced on the final lap. Machavern brought the No. 24 across the finish line to capture second place, a solid finish for an incredibly strong showing in what was his third race of his rookie year.
"All in all the weekend went well. The Heritage Motorsports Mustang was fast all weekend. It showed great race pace, unfortunately a small issue on the last lap prohibited us from taking the win.” said Machavern. “The racing is really tight. You are constantly battling for position, pushing the car and yourself. I appreciate the support of our racing partners: Unifirst/PPG/Traqgear Racing Innovations and look forward to the next round at Lime Rock Park.”
The Trans Am Series heads to Lime Rock Park in Connecticut on Memorial Day Weekend for Round 4 on Saturday, May 23rd.
The Road Atlanta weekend’s races will be telecast later this month on CBS Sports Network. The Foametix Muscle Car Challenge – Round 3 of the 2015 Trans-Am Championship airs Saturday, May 30, at 12 p.m. EDT
