MACHAVERN FINISHES ON PODIUM AT ROAD ATLANTA US MAJORS
You can always count on deep, competitive fields at a US Majors race and Road Atlanta was no exception. Dillon put the #24 Heritage Motorsports Spec Miata on the pole for both rounds of the weekend. Missing the test day to keep up with his college workload, Machavern went right to work in the Panic Motorsports prepared, Ti-Speed Engineering powered Mazda on Friday. "The car fits me like a glove. Steve and Jonathan have been prepping my cars since I started racing in 2012 and I've turned a fair number of laps at Road Atlanta which helps when you miss a full day of testing."
Round 7 Recap - Spring was in the air and sunshine and warm temperatures were on tap for Saturday's race. Starting on pole, Machavern and two other competitors broke away from the rest of the Spec Miata field on the 2.54 mile circuit. Relinquishing the lead, Machavern rode in second for the majority of the race, then moved to the front with one to go. Ready to race, Machavern held on out front for the final lap, with Steyn a half-second behind at the stripe.
Round 8 Recap - Competitors had to deal with the added element of rain thanks to Mother Nature. A steady rain fell for Sunday's SCCA Southeast Conference Majors Tour at Road Atlanta, Round Eight of 12 on the season. After starting on pole, Machavern was quickly shuffled back to sixth as struggled to stay with the leaders as he waited for his tires to come in. Watching his competitors pull away, Machavern was focused and methodically fought back to third. With time winding down, a full course caution for a car in the gravel trap at the end of the back straight tightened up the field. It was a race to the line with Machavern finishing behind Goring and Styen.
Next stop on the US Majors Southeastern Conference schedule is VIRginia International Raceway on April 18th - 19th.
