RECORD GRID READY TO RACE IN SEASON FINALE AT ROAD ATLANTA
BRASELTON, Ga. (Sept. 29, 2014) – A record field of 18 cars will line up for the season finale of the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America on Oct. 1-3 at Road Atlanta, with some prominent names of North American sports car racing joining series mainstays in competition.
Series participation has grown steadily throughout the season, with more teams and drivers drawn to the excitement of racing in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo car and the experience and amenities provided in the Lamborghini Village.
This combination is attracting championship-winning drivers at the top levels of sports car racing for the final two races of the 12-round championship, which debuted in North America in 2013.
Three-time GRAND-AM champion Andy Lally will co-drive with newly crowned series champion Kevin Conway in the No. 29 Change Racing Gallardo LP 570-4 representing Lamborghini Carolinas. Conway clinched his second consecutive season championship at the last event in late August at Virginia International Raceway.
Four-time SCCA World Challenge champion and current Continental Tire SportsCar challenge standout Lawson Aschenbach will race at Road Atlanta as a co-driver with Justin Marks in the No. 99 Change Racing car representing Lamborghini Carolinas.
Veteran Terry Borcheller, a multiple champion in GRAND-AM, American Le Mans Series and Continental SportsCar Challenge competition, will co-drive with Jean Claude Saada in the No. 03 Jota Corse Racing entry representing Lamborghini Dallas.
Multiple touring car champion Pierre Klienubing will make his season debut in the series in the No. 14 O’Gara Motorsports Gallardo LP 570-4 representing Lamborghini Beverly Hills.
The series also will welcome the return of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe standout Jake Rattenbury to this event. British driver Rattenbury made his North American debut in late August at Virginia International Raceway and contended for a podium position in Round 10 until a late mechanical problem.
Another highlight of Rounds 11 and 12 at Road Atlanta will be the conclusion of the stirring Amateur class championship duel between Dillon Machavern and Kevin O’Connell.
Machavern leads the class with 47 points in the No. 46 Mitchum Motorsport entry representing Lamborghini Chicago. O’Connell is close behind with 40 points in the No. 9 Rick Ware Racing Gallardo LP 570-4 representing Lamborghini Houston.
Two 50-minute races are scheduled for competitors in the incredible Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo cars, which are powered by a 570-horsepower V10 engine and feature permanent four-wheel drive.
Round 11 of the season is scheduled for 11:25 a.m. (ET) Thursday, Oct. 2, with Round 12 following at 5:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. Both races will be streamed live at SQUADRACORSE.LAMBORGHINI.COM/EN/LIVE-USA. Practice will take place Wednesday, Oct. 1, with qualifying at 5:30 p.m. that day on the 12-turn, 2.54-mile circuit.
The two rounds at Road Atlanta continue the global schedule for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia.
Racing in the Asian Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship continues Oct. 18-19 at the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe last competed Sept. 19-21 at Nurburg, Germany, with Italian Alberto Di Folco clinching the Pro-Am championship with the Autocarrozzeria Imperiale team.
Drivers from all three Super Trofeo series will travel to the Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the World Final on Nov. 22-23.
