Mitchum Motorsports Looks to Bounce Back in Kansas

Altamonte Springs, FL June 5, 2014 – Mitchum Motorsports has fought through an adversity-filled beginning to the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, showing an impressive resolve and fighting spirit. The talented team has contended with odd mechanical failures, unfortunate contact, ill-fated luck, and much more, all while trying to contend with one of the most competitive fields in all of racing. What makes this team and its drivers special though, is that they absolutely never give up. Both crew and pilots are back and ready to buck the trend and prove just what they’re capable of: getting back atop the podium.

The road to recovery begins in Kansas, as the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge heads to Kansas Speedway for its next round of furious competition. The team will be fielding the #10 BMW 128i race car in the ST class, piloted by the talented pairing of Dillon Machavern and Dylon Murcott, a duo that has already shown incredibly-impressive speed on more than one occasion. In the last round at Lime Rock Park, despite lapping at the sharp end of the field all throughout the practice sessions, Machavern started in 28th place due to the qualifying sessions being cancelled because of rain. Not letting that stop him, Machavern sliced through the field and had the #10 in 11th position. In Murcott’s stint, a surprisingly-lengthy green flag period threw fuel consumption predictions out the window, causing the team to change up their strategy. Moving to a fuel-saving strategy late in the race allowed Dylon Murcott to bring the #10 home in 15th. Kansas represents an opportunity to get back to winning ways and try and put everything together to achieve a result that the entire team is striving for.

“I’m looking forward to building on our successful trip to Lime Rock Park and putting together a solid run at Kansas.” says Dillon Machavern. “I think we have a great chance to finally move past all the issues we have encountered in the first part of the season and show what we really have as far as speed goes. Both Dylon and myself are really excited to get on the track!”

The Grand Prix of Kansas will take place June 6-7, 2014. Qualifying will take place on the 2.37 mile, 6-turn road course place on Friday, June 6th at 10:10pm EST, with the 150-minute race taking place on Saturday, June 7th at 7:15 pm EST.
