Mitchum Motorsports Fight Through Adversity For Sebring Finish

Sebring, FL – Mitchum Motorsport braved the second round of the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Sebring International Raceway with its two BMW 128i ST race cars. Drivers from both cars had plenty to say about an eventful weekend that saw flashes of brilliance, including Dillon Machavern’s outstanding qualifying pace. Ultimately it would be an exercise in resilience for the team, but they fought hard and never gave up, bringing home both cars for a finish. Dillon Machavern #10: “We qualified really well but unfortunately had to move to the back because of a technical infraction. However once we got started we cut through the field pretty quickly, coming from 33rd to 10th which was really fun. Everyone was driving pretty aggressively and the track was really greasy so there was a lot of sliding around. We were doing incredibly well and moving back up to the top of the order when we had a freak electrical failure that put us behind the wall for an extended period, but the crew worked really hard and got the car back together so that we could at least finish the race, so I definitely want to thank them as well as my co-driver for sticking it out today!” Dylon Murcott #10: “The weekend started off with the car a little loose, but the team worked really hard and we got the car handling very good. Dillon qualified the car in 5th position with a really fantastic lap, but we had a post-qualifying infraction that meant we’d start from the back. He drove from 33rd to 10th, was really having a great drive, the car was doing awesome. If it weren’t for the electronic problem that we had, I know we had a Top-5 car. I felt really confident after seeing how good he [Machavern] was doing that I could do lap times to match, which would have put us in a really great position at the finish. The team did work really hard though so that we could at least get back out there and score some points, so we were certainly able to make the best of it.” Lee Carpentier #11: “It was a great week here at Sebring. I love this atmosphere, it’s my favorite weekend of motorsports here in the States; it’s just a blast. It was a pretty hard week for the crew, and really the team as a whole dealing with some hurdles with both cars. In our car we had to deal with a lack of track time do to repairing the car after the incident in practice, which certainly made things interesting. But the fact that these guys hustled to get the car back out there, found all the parts, prepared it all, welded some new things up, and got us back out there for points is just fantastic. I couldn’t be happier with the team. The race itself was tough. Dane did a good job in qualifying, got us up the order a bit and then handed me a good car. We did have a couple issues with the car but again, it’s Sebring, so it’s brutal on the car. We lost 4th gear so it made it difficult to gain positions toward the end of the race despite the rest of the car being really good. Really, after a tough weekend to be here and survive, and take away points from the weekend is really fantastic. Round 3 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will take place from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on May 3-4, 2014.
