Dillon Machavern Takes Amazing Overall Win at VIR 13 Hour in Aston Martin

Altamonte Springs, FL/October 29, 2013-

Dillon Machavern may have recently earned his second consecutive championship in both the ECR and Tarheel Cup Endurance Series, but he may need to make more room on his trophy case! This past weekend he expertly piloted the #24 ITE Class Aston Martin of Mitchum Motorsports with teammates Tim Bell, Al Davis and car owner Rob Nimkoff to an outstanding victory in the 13 Hour Charge of the Headlight Brigade at Virginia International Raceway.

It was an incredible effort that saw both drivers and crew work at absolutely ten-tenths to get every drop of performance out of the car to come away with the win in a competitive field. The Aston Martin started the race strong, maintaining second position for the majority of the contest. As the hours ticked away, and the field ebbed and flowed, the team found themselves 4-laps down to the #8 BMW from Bimmerworld due to some minor mechanical glitches that had to be overcome. Machavern began to methodically reel off fast and consistent laps as he double stinted his final run in the car, bringing the Aston to within just one lap of the leader.

In what would be the last of only two caution periods in the entire race, Dillon’s teammate Tim Bell got in the car and quickly found himself back on the lead lap. Even more fortuitous was being able to make up another 40-seconds on the leader on track, and passed for the overall lead when the #8 came in for their final pit stop. In the final hour luck finally went the way of the #24 when the #8 BMW came into the pits with a mechanical issue that ended their day prematurely. All that was left at that point was to bring the car home quickly and safely, and that’s exactly what they did.

“I’m so excited by this win.” Dillon exclaimed. “It was an incredible effort by the team to bring this car home in first, and I can’t thank everyone enough at Mitchum Motorsports for giving us such a fantastic car to work with, car owner Rob Nimkoff for creating this opportunity, my teammates for being fast and dependable, and to P1 Groupe for helping put this all together.”

This marked another incredible 13 Hours Dillon won’t soon forget. The victory just looks to be the next in a long line of successful outings for the young star, as both driver speed and outstanding teamwork by the crew came together through the cold to take the overall win! Machavern heads to Road Atlanta this weekend for another round of racing action in his Mazda Miata with multiple races on the docket!
