Podium at The Brickyard

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve turned laps at INDY, but this weekend the No.24 Heritage Motorsports Ford Mustang will be ready thanks to the crew at Mike Cope Race Cars. We are looking for a strong finish this weekend, a little redemption after the disappointing DNF at Detroit. On track sessions in advance of Sunday afternoon’s The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli race around the 2.439-mile Grand Prix course are:

  • Friday 8:00 test session

  • Friday 3:25 Practice #1 - No.24 is showing some speed, working on set-up

  • Saturday 11:00 Practice #2 - solid session, continuing to dial it in

  • Saturday 4:30 Qualifying - rained out; grid will be set based on championship points standings. Starting on the front row in P2

  • Sunday 3:30 Race - 42 Laps, 102.06 miles - Finished P2, turned the fastest lap of the race on L3 with a 1:31.557, took the lead on Lap 24 and held it until there were 7-laps to go when puffs of black smoke were evident from the No.24. It was more important to finish with solid points than challenge for the lead. Drinking milk and champagne on the podium at the Brickyard - priceless.

Thanks to the entire crew at Mike Cope Race Cars, Ilmor Engines and Steve Bertok for giving me a fast car to run up front.
