Round 5 | Brainerd Independence Day Classic | Updated

This weekend marks Round 5 of the TransAm Series 2016 50th Anniversary Season. With three consecutive podiums, Machavern will be vying to make it 4 in a row and looks to repeat last year’s performance at Brainerd International Raceway where he posted his first TransAm win in TA-2.

“The crew at Mike Cope Race Cars work extremely hard before, during and after each event to put a competitive car under me. Having teammates - Tony Buffomante, Lawrence Loshak, Justin Haley, and Keith Prociuk - adds an additional dimension. We learn from each other. We challenge each other to be better.”

After retiring early, while running in 2nd at Sebring in Round 1 due to electrical issues, Machavern found himself back in 28th place in the points standings. Since then he’s closed the gap on the leaders and has climbed to 3rd in the points standings behind Tony Buffomante and Gar Robinson.

Green flag for the 100 mile, 40 laps or 75 minute Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic is at 1:00 pm (CDT) on Sunday, July 3rd. This race will be televised on CBS Sports Network at a later date. Live timing on Race Monitor or at www.gotransam.com

RACE UPDATE

We chased set-up most of the weekend - qualified in P5. It was a wild race - tight racing in TA2. The race was shortened and finished under yellow. Car was positioned to challenge for the lead. Happy with a podium finish and the good points for P3.
