Dillon Machavern Leaves Road Atlanta With a Pair of Podium Finishes

Altamonte Springs, FL/March 31, 2014 Dillon Machavern took to Road Atlanta in the #24 Heritage Automotive/Panic Motorsports/Ti-Speed Engineering Mazda Miata for a pair of races in the Spec Miata class, a brand of racing that the talented driver has already tasted much success in. As it turned out, this weekend would be no different, as Machavern took 2nd place in both the Road Atlanta SCCA Eastern Conference Majors and BF Goodrich Super Tour races. The BF Goodrich Super Tour race saw a particularly exciting finish. In the early stages of the race, Machavern’s No. 24 Heritage Automotive/Panic Motorsports/Ti-Speed Engineering Mazda joined Alex Bolanos in the #57 Autotechnik/Momo/Apex Alignment Mazda Miata and the #2 East Street Racing Mazda Miata of Jim Drago quickly separated from the rest of the field and lapped together in a tight formation. As of Lap 13, Machavern was hot on the tail of the two-time defending National Champion Drago as they swept around Bolanos, with Bolanos quickly moving right back in line to keep the pressure on. The trio stayed that way until the checkered flag, as Drago crossed the line a breath ahead of Machavern, Bolanos rounding out the podium. "Road Atlanta ranks as one of my favorite tracks." Dillon remarked. "For me the race weekend started a day late, as I missed the earlier practice due to school being a high priority for me. As a result, I went into qualifying pretty much cold but was still able to quickly get up to pace working with Danny Steyn to secure 10th position for both races; a decent starting position in such a tight field. Starting outside the Top-10, I knew it wasn't going to be easy since the field was deep with talent, but was confident I could make my way up to the leaders. Come race time I was able to pick my way through the field fairly quickly leaving plenty of time to battle it out at the front. As always the draft was very important in both races, and we saw that in the first race as it allowed Andrew Carbonell and I to catch up to Jim Drago and Alex Bolanos, which made for an exciting three-wide finish. "The second race was much of the same until I lost my drafting partner [Andrew Carbonell] due to a broken transmission and I was forced to work a little harder, eventually hooking up with Jim Drago and pulling a slight gap on Alex. Unfortunately I waited a little too long to make my move on Jim and he ended up edging me out at the line. All in all though it was a fantastic weekend with two great finishes for me and the team!"
