Victory at VIR
At the Biscuitville Grand Prix at VIRginia International Raceway on Saturday, August 26th, RS1’s Dillon Machavern and Dylan Murcott secured their first career win in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The victory also marks the 50th win for Porsche in CTSC competition.
During testing and first practice the No.28 was on rails; later in the day we were dealt the disappointment of being towed back to the paddock during Practice #2 and Practice #3. Thanks to the efforts of the entire RS1- The Race Development Center crew, the car rolled down pit lane to qualify as time was ticking away. Dylan Murcott was laser focused and posted a time to put us on the grid in P3.
After a nail-biter qualifying session, Murcott started the race from grid in P3 and maintained that position until he entered the pits prior to the first full course caution when the team pitted for tires, fuel and mandatory driver change. The RS1 crew were spot on and Machavern took over in second place.
"We overcame adversity, ran up front all race, had just completed our driver change before the first FCY which benefited us and stayed focused on finishing. Thrilled to have our first win and to give Porsche their 50th IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge win."
The win at VIRginia International Raceway was a total team effort.Machavern drove the No. 28 RS1 YouRulz Porsche Cayman GT4 MR in the final stint piloting the No. 28 to a 2.767-second victory.
The twenty-something duo has been consistent all season; finishing second in each of the prior three outings. They entered the weekend with a slim lead in the points; the win gives the RS1 drivers a little breathing room in the GS championship points standings heading into the final two races of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta.
"Today was all about getting points," said Machavern. "I was just out there trying to run clean, consistent laps. It just so happened the RS1 guys gave us an incredibly fast car and it was super consistent on the Continental Tires. It made my job really easy. This one really goes out to the RS1 boys."
The Biscuitville Grand Prix will be televised on FS1 on Saturday, September 2nd at 9 a.m. ET and will be available on YouTube shortly afterwards.
The next stop for the Series is at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, September 23rd for a four-hour endurance race starting at 4:50pm ET. Then it is onto the season finale at Road Atlanta on October 6th at 1:50pm ET. All races are live-streamed on IMSA.com
