MACHAVERN SEALS AMATEUR TITLE, LIFTS MITCHUM TO TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
BRASELTON, Ga. (Oct. 3, 2014) – Corey Lewis and Aaron Povoledo picked up their third victory of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America season, while Dillon Machavern clinched his first Amateur Class championship to propel Mitchum Motorsports to its first Team Championship Friday, Oct. 3 at Road Atlanta.
Machavern finished second to clinch the Amateur title in the No. 46 Mitchum Motorsports entry representing Lamborghini Chicago. That result, combined with his overall victory in Round 11 Thursday, gave Machavern a 74-54 gap over Amateur runner-up Kevin O’Connell in the final standings. Machavern, who started his Lamborghini season in Round 5 in June at Watkins Glen, also finished second in the overall championship.
“I just want to thank the team and my parents for this whole season,” Machavern said. “We are champions, so that’s pretty awesome. We’re not just winning races but winning the championship, so I couldn’t be happier right now.”
Machavern’s finish was enough to push his Mitchum Motorsports team to a one-point victory over Change Racing, 134-133, in the Team Championship.
Povoledo and Lewis took the checkered flag 1.635 seconds ahead of pole sitter Machavern in the No. 76 Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo fielded by Musante-Courtney Racing and representing Lamborghini Boston.
“We take fearless, calculated risks in setup, and the car just keeps getting better and better,” Povoledo said. “But the car worked great the entire time, and what an incredible feeling to take another win here for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. I can’t say enough for the team, for the car, everything about it. I love racing here. This feels great.”
Lewis started the race third and slowly picked off the competition, overtaking Cody Ware in the No. 38 Gallardo fielded by Rick Ware Racing and representing Lamborghini Long Island for first in Turn 10 with 34 minutes left in the race. He made his mandatory pit stop and turned the car over to Povoledo.
Povoledo led the rest of the way after the pit stop cycle completed. Povoledo and Lewis also swept Rounds 9 and 10 in late August at Virginia International Raceway.
“Finally we’re back where we belong,” Lewis said. “I cannot thank Musante-Courtney enough for the opportunity for Aaron and myself. It’s really awesome and a great way to end the season.”
Multiple touring car champion Pierre Kleinubing finished third in his second race in the series in the No. 14 O’Gara Motorsports entry representing Lamborghini Beverly Hills.
Two-time reigning series champion Kevin Conway and multiple-time GRAND-AM champion Andy Lally teamed up to place fourth in the No. 29 Change Racing car representing Lamborghini Carolinas.
O’Connell rounded out the top five and was second among Amateur class drivers in the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing entry representing Lamborghini Toronto.
Matt McMurry and Dylan Murcott drove the No. 80 Mitchum Motorsports entry representing Lamborghini Palm Beach to a third-place Amateur finish.
The two rounds at Road Atlanta continued the global schedule for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia.
Racing in the Asian Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship continues Oct. 18-19 at the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe last competed Sept. 19-21 at Nurburg, Germany, with Italian Alberto Di Folco clinching the Pro-Am championship with the Autocarrozzeria Imperiale team.
Drivers from all three Super Trofeo series will travel to the Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the World Final on Nov. 22-23.

Opening stint, I kind of held back a little bit and had full control. We could do whatever we wanted when we wanted, and we kind of held back. I was just trying to save that left rear tire as best as I could and handed the car over to Aaron, and he executed perfectly. I cannot thank Musante-Courtney Racing enough for the opportunity for Aaron and myself. It’s really awesome and a great way to end the season.”
AARON POVOLEDO (No. 76 Lamborghini Boston, winner): “That was an exhilarating race. The very first thing that comes to my mind is the back-breaking work that the entire crew did. My guys Anthony and David, they worked non-stop. Again, it’s the third weekend in a row I’ve raced with this team, and the boys just keep working and working. We take fearless, calculated risks in setup, and the car just keeps getting better and better. We knew today would be about tire conservation and making sure we kept good rubber underneath us the entire time. It was really challenging to do so. It was kind of a guessing game of how hard to push, how much to lay back. But the car worked great the entire time, and what an incredible feeling to take another win here for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series for the Musante-Courtney Racing team. I can’t say enough for them, for the car, everything about it. I love racing here. This feels great.”
DILLON MACHAVERN (No. 07 Lamborghini Chicago, second; first, Amateur, 2014 Amateur Class champion): “I feel like I’ve said it a million times, but once again it was a strategy race trying to manage tires. We took it easy at the beginning, and after the pit stop we went for it when we knew we were right on everybody. I just want to thank the team and my parents a lot for this whole season. PIERRE KLEINUBING (No. 14 Lamborghini Beverly Hills, third): “It was a little uneventful until I spun myself in the race. I thought I had every bit of a shot of winning, but we just missed something on the car. It wasn’t as fast as yesterday. Yesterday I was able to lead quite easily, and today it was a handful to finish third. Would have loved to win, but we’ll take third.”
