MUEHLNER MOTOSPORTS AMERICA FIGHTS TO THE FINISH AT MAZDA RACEWAY

May 7, 2014

Altamonte Springs, Fla. May 7, 2014 – Muehlner Motorsports America fought through a number of adversities to take a well-earned albeit frustrated finish at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship this past weekend.

Both the #18 and #19 Porsche 911 GT America race cars fought through an incredibly-talented and hotly-contested GTD field amidst hurdles both logistical and practical. While not the result that both the team and its talented lineup of drivers wanted, there was plenty to be proud of when the checkered flag finally flew.

Dillon Machavern #19: “The Porsche was a really interesting learning experience. There was a lot of fight in the car, though we ran up against multiple problems during the race – including a shredded tire and radio problems during my stint alone – that ended up putting us farther down the order than we wanted to be. Even with all the issues though it was still a great learning experience getting to drive in the GTD class in the TUDOR Championship!”

Matt Bell #18: “I want to thank Bernhard Muehlner and P1 Groupe again for putting this together so last minute to be in the #18 Wheels Up Muehlner Motorsports Porsche this weekend. Bernhard called a great strategy that put us in the lead.  Our strategy was going to set us up for a really strong result until a miscommunication to CJ [David Calvert-Jones] led to a drive-through penalty that took us out of the lead and ultimately out of contention for the race win.  Overall I enjoyed my first time in a Porsche and my first time driving for this team and a new co-driver.  CJ did a great job; was really impressed with his pace and consistency, and would welcome the opportunity to drive with him and this team again in the future.”

David Calvert-Jones #18: “I’ve raced in GTC in ALMS at Sebring and Petit Le Mans. It was good fun out there. I was just working my way up through the field and trying to be consistent and keep the car underneath me. Unfortunately there was a super slow car and I spun it there and just tried to keep it together and keep it consistent and just try to click off some consistent laps, which I did. I had a miscommunication with the team I thought they said wave by and I went, so we got a drive through penalty for that but it is what it is.”

The next stop for the GTD class in the TUDOR Championship will be at The Raceway at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, MI on May 30-31, 2014.

ABOUT MUEHLNER MOTORSPORTS AMERICA

Mühlner Motorsport has become a significant global player in the world of professional motorsports since their early days in 1978 when Bernhard Mühlner and his brother Hartmut built their first competition Volkswagen Golf GT1 Rally race car. Originally founded in Germany the team moved its headquarters in 1998 to Spa-Francorchamps, home of the famous F1 Grand Prix track nestled in the heart of the Belgium Ardennes forest. From this base of operations the team prospered and expanded their activities worldwide, finding success racing in Europe, Asia and the Middle-East.

Mühlner Motorsport has become a close-knit, family operated and highly professional race organization, under the direction of the husband and wife team of Bernhard and Renate-Carola assisted by their son Martin and daughter Michelle.

To date the team has earned about 250 podium finishes, more than 100 victories and eight Championships and Mühlner Motorsport is now recognized as one of the world’s most successful race teams in existence. The hunger for even broader success led in 2010 to the  establishment of a new division, Muehlner Motorsports America, LLC, with headquarters in DeLand, Florida close to the iconic Daytona International Speedway.
