Mitchum Motorsports Looks to Leverage Strong Drivers and Excellent Preparation to Bring Home Strong

Sebring, FL – Mitchum Motorsport started the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge with strong finishes at Daytona International Speedway with the team’s well-prepared BMW 128i ST-class race cars, and look to continue the trend at Sebring International Raceway with both cars.

Chris Mitchum: “When you look at the ST field, getting away from the rovals is going to be great for our cars, getting away from the high turbo-powered output of some of the other cars. The BMW’s get off the corners really well, and brakes really well. Sebring is going to be a demanding track for everybody. Really what’s different about Sebring in what sets people apart is that you’ve got to build a ‘better mousetrap’. You have to build a car that’s bulletproof. We’ll actually go through a lot of change-overs with the car to soften it up in a couple of different ways to make it give. The advantage we have is that we’ve tested both cars there. We know what we’re going for, and what we can do, so I expect both cars to have a shot at the Top-10. I know the whole team is really excited about the potential for the cars here.”

Dillon Machavern #10: “I’m really excited to get back out there, especially since this car I feel is going to be really great around this track. The team is fantastic at putting together a quality car for us to drive no matter what the track, but I think the layout here will be especially advantageous, and I’m looking forward to being able to mix it up at the front of the ST field. It’s going to be an awesome race, that’s for sure!”

Dylon Murcott #10: “I think all of the drivers are feeling pretty confident about how these cars match up to the track at Sebring, especially when you compare it to some of the difficulties that Daytona presented as far as layout goes. No matter what, the team has done an amazing job in getting the cars prepared, and I just can’t wait to get out there and get going.”

Lee Carpentier #11: “I actually used to live in Sebring and I know the track like the back of my hand. Our car is fantastic through rhythm sections, and with the straights not being nearly as long as they were in Daytona, I think we’ll be able to have the top speed to stay competitive. Also, every straight section here has a rhythm section prior to it, which allows our car to get up and go through it and carry more speed down the length of it. I really think it’s going to be a fantastic car for this track.”

Dane Moxlow #11: “At Daytona we were a little light on power, and struggled some with the aero as well. I think Sebring will play into our favor, especially after getting some really good data from the test day. There are long straights there which will pose a challenge, but there are still plenty of tight sections where I feel our car will be much better than much of the field. Lee and I also both know Sebring rather well, and I think we should be able to have a really strong race and finish even higher than we did in the opening round.”

Round 2 of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will take place from Sebring International Raceway on March 14th and will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com at 1pm EST. Thursday’s qualifying results will see the #10 in P5, thanks to a great lap by Machavern, and the #11 will start in P29 following a heroic effort by the crew to rebuild the car overnight after damage sustained in Practice on Wednesday.
